Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Did you know that with a visual acuity 4 - 8 times better than a human's, the bald eagle is a formidable predator?
An eagle riding a thermal at an altitude of nearly 1,000 feet uses it's binocular and peripheral vision to spot prey across a distance of nearly 3 square miles.
The bald eagle plucks fish from the water with its talons without diving into the water.
Not to demoralize the stately bald eagle, but it is a stated fact
that they prefer to feed on carrion,
and are known to "pirate" live fish from Osprey.
Perhaps the path of least resistance?

Is there anything more beautiful than observing a Bald Eagle with its outspread wings. In the spring we often
have some passing through and we drive out to observe them. It is really an awesome site. I knew they had great eyesight but didn't know just how great it was until I just read your blog. Was this in your area? Nola
Hi, Nola. Yes sireee, these eagles were right here in the harbor in front of my house! I see eagles just about every day, and will always delight in sighting one as if it was the first time!! ~karen
You're so lucky! We do see a few here, but it is really a red letter day to spot one.
Cool shots of the Eagle. They are awesome and always a treat to see.
Karen: Oh how I want to see an eagle on wing, neat captures.

Wonderful shots! That's very interesting that their vision is so good!
Thank you all for stopping by and viewing my eagle pictures. I am very lucky, indeed, to have resident eagles around my property. They sometimes offer great photo opportunities! I miss a lot of great shots, too! ~karen
