Common Yellowthroat Warbler

.
Common Yellowthroat Warbler
(Geothlypis trichas)

During a walk along the ocean this afternoon,
in the close vicinity of a bog and a barrachois,
I came across this handsome fellow.
 he called out to me.

You'd think that if he wanted me to know he was there,
he could at least have stayed still long enough
for me to take a decent picture.
This is as good as it gets!

His black mask is called a 'domino'
and he prefers swamps, marshes, and wet thickets
from Canada to s. Mexico.

I have never had the pleasure of seeing one of these little birds before. Are they west coasters I wonder? I'll have to Google. Lovely photo which I enlarged to get a more detailed look.

I took a photo of a momma raccoon investigating my bird feeders. If you have the time to stop by, my post is right here,

Lovely bird!
I learned two things in your post: I didn't know the mask is a "domino" and I had to look up the word "barrachois." I guess it is what we would call a Laguna--or is it a smaller pond than our laguna? Our Laguna Madre is the bay at the end of our river--between the land and the island.
Great post, as always, Karen!

As usual, I learned from your blog... same words that were mentioned above. I think it's great you were able to get the picture you did! Nola

Lovely shot Karen, that is a beautiful bird and good to learn some interesting facts about it and its habitat. I agree some birds just will not pose at all and others will almost chase you to get their photo taken.

He looks very happy! Those warblers can be difficult, this is great!
